For all of my career in marketing, I have worked in programmes that gave me guaranteed sales each month. I sold collections where the customers had signed up for a regular shipment, on a subscription basis. This doesn't just work for magazines - the subscription model can be used for a wide range of products or services. And there are lots of tricks to make sure that people don't cancel.
And even if you can't build a subscription business, you want to retain your customers. You want them on your database and buying from you regularly. You need a structured marketing programme with a variety of interesting offers. And you need to make sure that you have great service, to keep your customers loyal to you.
